How do I get into purchasing reps and how do I do it without a spreadsheet?

I think spreadsheets are dumb because I might see a piece that might not be on a spreadsheet but I wanna find it as a rep. I’ve never copped reps and I don’t know where to start, where to look, etc. hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
