I need a mental detox from Stray Kids and I don't know where to start
I've been following Stray Kids since 2020. At first, it was purely about the music. I wasn't into the content, didn't follow their variety shows, didn't care about their personal lives. Just the songs. And it was fine.
In 2022, something shifted. I started watching more of their content, getting to know their personalities, their dynamic. But I still didn't think much of it. It was just entertainment.
Then 2024 happened. And somewhere along the way, without me even noticing, they became a constant in my head. 24/7. I wasn't just enjoying their music anymore—I was emotionally invested. Their schedules, their emotions, their future plans. It started to take up mental space that I didn't even realize I was giving away.
The weirdest part? I had vowed to myself years ago that I would never get this attached to any celebrity. I judged people who did. And yet here I am.
I didn't even notice the shift happening. I can't point to a specific moment where it went from "casual fan" to "emotionally dependent." It just... crept up on me. 2023 was fine. I took breaks, I didn't care. But 2024 hit differently. Maybe it was because I was going through a rough patch personally. Maybe it was because I had more time at home. Maybe it was because they felt like the only constant in my life when everything else was unstable.
Whatever the reason, I'm here now. And I don't like it.
Recently, they posted a video that got me thinking. They talked about military service, about changing as people, about not knowing what the future holds. And I realized something: I've been building my emotional stability around people who don't even know I exist. That's not their fault. That's mine. But it still hurts.
I don't blame them. I'm not angry at them. I just think I need to step back. I need to detach. I need to stop consuming every piece of content, stop checking updates, stop letting their lives occupy so much space in my mind.
But I don't know how.
I've tried taking breaks before, but I always come back. I tell myself "just one video" and then I'm down a rabbit hole for hours. It's like I know I need to let go, but my brain won't cooperate.
Has anyone else been through this? How do you actually detox from a parasocial attachment that built up so slowly you didn't even see it coming? How do you rewire your brain to stop caring so much about people who aren't part of your real life?
I'm not looking for judgment. I already judge myself enough. I just want practical advice from people who've been there and gotten out.
Thanks for reading.
