Non-Practicing paralegal, in some stuff

Question/Discussion

Hey folks, I got my paralegal degree before pivoting in my bachelor's and never actually worked in a firm or for a lawyer. My experience has only been in the past taking care of small things for myself, and of course I hung on to all my notes from contract, family law and the like on Google docs so I've always had some references.

I'm currently representing myself as a pro se defendant in a divorce. I've been using AI as a sounding board, but I'm wondering if I've made any major missteps?

The timeline goes as follows ;

After being served, I began to put my financial documents in order. When I received the discovery request from the opposing council, I replied within a 6 hours with all my mandatory disclosures, along with my own Discovery request. They did not fulfill my discovery, likely because the opposing counsel had already realized the case would be assigned to a new judge and rescheduled.

I sent them a settlement offer, the only thing that is in dispute is the child support amount. I provided downward deviation adjustment justifications anchored in the statute based on my additional children. It was ignored.

A new hearing was scheduled. Mediation was scheduled to take place before that at the expense of both parties.. I made another settlement offer, with the additional offer of maintaining private dental insurance for the children including orthodontics, with a 5-day window to respond. I was once again ignored.

On Monday I am filing a notice of delinquent Discovery and making a good faith effort to get her financial details with an 11-day window. I was accidentally included in an email chain between the council and my ex when I first made my Discovery request, where she indicated all of her finances as a self-employed stylist go through peer-to-peer apps, and not traditional banking. I will be explicitly asking for those records to be handed over 11 days from my notice, before I file a motion to compel from the court roughly a month and a half before documents were due to be exchanged for the mediator.

If I have to file the motion compel, I will be attaching the the email I was accidentally included in as for the reason of my specific discovery requests and it would put the opposing counsel in a position to receive sanctions from the court for non-compliance. I'm trying to just get some kind of settlement out of them, I know my ex does not have unlimited funds to spend on the attorney, preparing for mediation, putting together bank records.

I'm just wondering if I'm handling myself okay? If I've made any obvious mistakes? I know everyone is very limited on what they can say, I have just said nothing but Google Gemini for a sounding board and I feel a little bit lost in the sauce with how much time I've put in everything.
