AMA: Raised by a single parent who is a severe alcoholic

I'm an only child and my parents divorced when I was 4 years old. I was primarily raised by my mom who has severe mental illness and has been to jail a few times for multiple DUIs. I'm currently writing about my experience so people better understand how substance abuse usually co-exists with PTSD and other mental health struggles, and is so much more complex than just drinking or using substances.
