Lightning rods as fences?

Hello everybody! Ok so I’m posting here again to ask another question. This one I think is probably a little silly so bear with me. I wanted to ask if lighting rods actually have to be around or near your crops to protect them properly? I’m asking because the farm inspo layout I’m using incorporates some aspects of the inspo picture (while of course modifying and mushing together other ideas from other pics to make my own layout). The inspo has the farm area and the livestock area kinda separated away from each other (as I want to use the rods as fence posting with standard wood gates). I’ll post the inspo picture for clear explanation of what I mean. But I wanted to make sure even if the farm and livestock are kinda away from each other the lightning rods still have the benefit of protecting my farm or maybe if I should just put them around my farm instead and settle for normal gates right now?
