How do I tell my boyfriend…

Hi! So this is the situation. My boyfriend (M20) and I (F18) have known each other since December 03,2025 and started dating March 13,2026 and we have broken the distance a total of 3 times since then. An opportunity was presented for me to move into my boyfriend’s families shed converted apartment and split the rent with my boyfriend starting May of 2027. My initial plan was that I was going to finish my first semester of my sophomore year in college and save around $5,000 and then take a gap semester in order to work full time. After receiving financial aid I still have a remaining balance of $2,387.17 with my university that I’d like to pay off/get under $1,500 to ensure that when it comes to applying for the Fall of 2027 I am able to do so without any trouble. The unfortunate part is that I feel the money that I am currently saving to use for the apartment (rent, furniture) + the money I will continue to make working part time from August-December has to be thrown at the remaining balance of $2,387.17. I’m not sure of how to tell my boyfriend of my financial struggles or the possibility that moving in together may not be the best plan in place due to my unexpected cost?

1: Should I just pay off the amount under $1,500 and then start a separate savings account for that balance to pay off before semester of Fall 2027? But, continue saving for the apartment separately?

2: Should I ask the financial aid office for more money? And, if so, how do I go about writing that email?

3:Is moving in with my boyfriend in May of 2027 a smart decision?
