Having no passion really makes me feel like a failure...
The title is a bit of a lie. I do have a very strong passion for digital art, and have been doing it for maybe 10 years now. As it stands, though, my passion doesn't pay. I do commissions here and there, but don't earn anywhere near enough to live on.
I graduate high school in 2027, so I've been thinking even harder about what I want to do with my life after that. I initially wanted to go into astrophysics, but my precalc class in sophomore year sucked any drive I had for math right out of me. I thought about going to art school instead, but I don't think the investment would be worth it when many artists have succeeded in the digital niche without the degree and massive debt. I would still need a job to hold me over while I make that happen, though. Other than that, I truly have nothing!
What makes this so hard for me is that everyone else around me seems to be into subjects that pay. They're all passionate about healthcare, or engineering, or software development, and I'm just not. Even though I'm good at what I do right now, it feels like a curse, and it feels like I've failed. I've wasted my entire high school career working toward nothing (except self-teaching art) because I was so lost on what exactly to work toward. I feel even more stressed because I'm 40+ credits into college through DE and will have to figure out what I want to do soon so I can take those classes.
I'm going through Khan Academy up to precalc to brush up on my math and hopefully open some more doors, but at this point in time I really feel hopeless. As much as I adore art and will continue to create it until I die, I wish I could've been passionate about something that would make me a decent living like everybody else I know.
