I (25M) broke up with my boyfriend (22M) after 1 month. Did he really love me, or was I just emotionally attached?
Can you give me an objective opinion?
I'm 25 years old. About a month ago, I met a 22-year-old femboy. We started talking through League of Legends and Discord. As time went on, I became very attached to him. In fact, it was the first time in my life that I truly felt I was in love with someone.
We eventually met in person. At the time, he was going through financial difficulties, so I tried to support him however I could. He told me that he loved me, but he was also honest and said that he wasn't as emotionally attached to me as I was to him. He works as a League of Legends booster, so most of his income comes from boosting accounts.
Over time, our communication started to change. I was almost always the one initiating conversations. Sometimes he wouldn't reply for hours even though I could see he was active on Instagram. That made me constantly wonder whether he really loved me.
At the same time, he kept thinking about the future. Since we're both men and we live in Turkey, he believed that having a long-term future together would be very difficult.
Last night, we broke up. I couldn't sleep because I was so devastated. Around 5 a.m., I couldn't hold myself back anymore and sent him a message. He didn't reply until around 11 a.m., although I assume he was asleep. I spent the whole night awake crying, and by morning my eyes were bloodshot.
When he finally replied, he told me that the way I had become so attached to him was "disturbing" and "scary." He said that I should focus on my job and my hobbies instead of making him the center of my life. Hearing that really hurt because, in my mind, getting attached to someone you love didn't seem like something to be afraid of.
About an hour later, he told me he had a dentist appointment and asked me for money. I refused because, after everything that had happened, it didn't feel right.
I still love him very much. Part of me wants to message him and try to get back together. Another part of me thinks that if he had truly loved me the way I loved him, things wouldn't have ended like this.
What would you think if you were in my situation? Do you think he genuinely loved me but couldn't handle how attached I became? Or does it sound like he mainly enjoyed the attention and financial support I gave him? I'd really appreciate honest and objective opinions. He also told me, "Please stay away from me for a while. I'm scared of you." That really shocked me because I never threatened him or tried to control him. I was simply heartbroken and had become very emotionally attached. From my perspective, I was just trying to save the relationship, but his words made me question whether my behavior came across as overwhelming.
