One of my girls has quite a low hanging tumor that is starting to drag on the ground when she moves. Due to a couple of factors the vet considers removal to be too risky (there is a smaller tumor he thinks is connected to the first/she is over two now) so we are just letting her live out the rest of her time with us. She is completely fine in herself otherwise.

Under the current circumstances we have started to use washable pee pads (the kind used by incontinent elderly/disabled people) as a bedding as I was worried about her tumor dragging on the wood shavings and getting sore. Keeping the tumor and skin healthy is what will keep her with us as long as possible, and she is very much adored.

Is this ok? I know I need to let them dig/forage but I can't see another solution currently. They do have stuff they can shred and dig in but no designated dig box as they need more bottom floor space as they are getting too old to climb and again, I don't want her to drag it across anything rough.

Thoughts/opinions would be really welcome as I feel really guilty about taking away their deep substrate. I'm trying to balance her needs with the needs of my other two girls and it is really tough.

Is fleece/material substrate ok in this circumstance?
