Watched almost all my friends get priced out of the city we graduated in. When does this end?
I (25F) graduated uni a few years ago and most of my friend group stayed in Manchester and around the city afterwards. Over the last year or so though, one by one, most of them have had to move back home because rent has gotten so unaffordable.
These are people with full time jobs. Not slacking off, not being irresponsible with money, just... doing everything they're "supposed" to do and still not able to afford to stay somewhere they built their entire lives.
It's honestly making me so angry. Watching working people get slowly squeezed out of the city because landlords and the market have just decided rent should keep climbing with no relation to what people actually earn. It feels so unfair and like nobody in charge actually cares that this is happening.
Is anyone else seeing this happen to their friend group? When do we actually get some kind of justice or accountability for this? Because it genuinely feels like it's only getting worse.
