Should I become a monk?

To provide some backstory I was raised by my grandparents in what I believe was a Baptist denomination. My grandmother started developing Alzheimers when I was 14 or so which led to me losing what little faith in god I had. I became an atheist for many years.

I am now 32 and have circled back around to the idea that god exists and that he allows bad things to happen to encourage our growth and change. I'm still not a Catholic but I have been reading the bible. Admittedly it's the KJV bible which I understand is baptist but it's the one I have on hand at the moment.

Why do I want to become a monk?

At times this modern life we live feels empty. Get up, go to work, come home, eat, sleep, repeat. For what? Just to put money into an already rich mans pocket? If I'm going to work I'd much rather do something that matters and makes an actual difference like tending a garden to grow food or making beer like the Trappists do. I've been alone for most of my life with very little support but it can be a hard road to be on your own. I like the idea of having a community that would be there for me and me being there for them.

I also like the idea of living a disciplined life free from my base urges. And as for material possessions I don't really care about them. I dress simply in blue jeans and a t-shirt, and most of my expendable income goes to entertainment or hobbies.

I realize that becoming a monk would involve giving up every single thing I own which, at times, honestly seems freeing. But I realize becoming a monk is a huge step and not something to be taken lightly.
