I built an AI tool to preview real furniture in your actual room before buying it

Idea Validation

Been building this for a while and finally feel okay showing it.

It’s called DecorMate. The idea is pretty simple: you upload a photo of your actual room, add furniture or decor products you’re thinking about buying, and it generates a realistic preview of how those items could look in your space.

I started working on it because buying furniture online is still weirdly full of guessing. A sofa looks great on the product page, then you realize it fights with your wall color, rug, floor, lighting, or the rest of the room.

What it does right now:

Upload a room photo

Add products by URL when import works, or manually add the product image/details

Preview up to 5 products in one generation

Choose whether each item should be added to the room or replace something already there

Keep private saved projects with the original room, result, product links, prices, and merchant info

Credit-based, so you only spend when you generate previews

It’s not perfect yet. Product scraping is still best-effort because some stores block or hide data, especially Amazon sometimes. That’s why I added manual product entry/upload as a fallback.

Also, the previews are for visual confidence, not exact measurements. You still need to check dimensions like a responsible adult, sadly.

Mostly looking for honest feedback: does the idea make sense, does the workflow feel clear, and where would you expect this to fail?

Happy to talk about the stack, product import pipeline, or image generation side if anyone’s curious.
