Did you see signs in your child as a toddler?
My 2.5 year old has been really struggling in daycare and I fear he will be asked to leave. I know a 2 year old can't be diagnosed, but was wondering if you saw signs in your child this early. My son struggles with transitions and regularly hitting, pushing peers and teachers, and throwing objects. He doesn't really melt down often, he'll just do a lot of these things impulsively. I realize a lot of these are age appropriate, but the frequency of these things happening is making his program say that they are not typical. These behaviors happen at home, but definitely not as frequency as they are happening in school.
His daycare has requested that I reach out to EI and seek a developmental assessment. I have been receiving daily reports about his behavior and they're not good. A few months ago, I had him evaluted by EI. I asked if he could be assessed in the classroom and they said initial evaluations could only be done at home or in their office. We did the evaluation at home. He was engaged, focused, and chatted their ears off so he did not qualify.
He speaks in sentences, makes eye contact, and follows instructions. He is definitely socially motivated. He spent most of the weekend with his older cousins and just followed them around the entire time and wanted to copy everything they did. If they were wearing helmets and riding bikes, he needed to wear a helmet and ride a bike. If they were playing with trucks, he needed a truck.
We are hopefully starting OT this week and a referral has been sent for a developmental assessment but I understand that the wait list is long. I'm just wondering if anyone else went through something similar and what helped.
