AITAH for cutting ties with a friend from College
So some back story first,
I met this guy (both Male) when we started college, we talked and became friends, after college that led us to being best friends, we went out almost every week, chatted on Playstation and played games, stayed round his, he stayed round mine, I always noticed that if I had any bad break ups or feeling down however he was always absent, but whenever it was the other way around I was always there.
He kept in touch with my ex literally as soon as we broke up, even left me to go to a uni night for her and her new boyfriend at the time (much time has passed since this and I'm over it now)
I told him I was upset about it and he said I was overreacting.
Fast forward to COVID and he liked a girl from our old workplace and just found out she was single, I really pushed him to go for it and he was very hesitant but eventually did.
They've now moved in together and had a child, I don't take any credit for it and never has because he's still the one that talked to her at the end of the day.
Anyway, the last couple of years he's been really distant and it's been hard to meet up even monthly because he is always busy, the other lads in our group can all make the time bar him, and when he did come out he'd basically tell me my way of life is wrong and I never make the effort to meet up with anyone, it was so bad once my other friends took my side and confronted him about it, at which point he stated he knew me better than anyone but he did chill out after that.
I collect Warhammer and he said I should grow out of it.
Called me immature for playing video games
And what really annoyed me was when his daughter was born I was the one out of all his friends to come round and just see the baby, I am not a fan of children so for me to be the first I was genuinely surprised, we took her for a walk while he talked out her birth and I let him and then he ended it with "you only become a man once you have a child"
This annoyed me for two reasons:
-
I don't want kids and I've always stated that
-
My fiancé cannot have children (which is fine and we both don't want them)
But even with all that knowledge of me he still stated it, I told him those two points and he just deflected them.
And the final straw was this, I turned 30 last March and he never once said happy birthday to me, his partner did, all my other friends and their partners did. Not once from him.
We don't expect gifts for each other but a happy birthday isn't hard.
So after that, that was it for me. I stopped messaging him in March and I don't think it's bothered him at all, we've been friends for over 11 years before this and I think it's time I cut ties completely but I feel like an asshole for doing it.
Thanks for reading
TL:DR: Friend of 11 years criticises my life, ghosts and then states I never keep in touch, decided to cut ties but feel shitty
