How do you change the impression of others about you?

Hey!

Im a highschool girl and ive been in the same class with the same people since 7th grade.

This year my bestfriend has to change schools because of her grades and school preformance and i am trying to get closer to my other classmates. Now beside my bestfriend i still have 2 friends from our friendgroup that i get along with pretty well and enjoy spending time with despite them not being as relatable as my bestfriend.

Now to the problem, a couple of months ago me and my bestfriend had a huge argument because of a misunderstanding. Since she was never really doing well in school i always told her to try to study more or atleast get help from a tutor. One day my mom and i talked about it and my mom gave me the advice to tell her to try to improve ther grades this year so she can have a better future. My bestfriends family aka her single father isnt at the best level of financial-independence and has to work a lot in order to maintain the lifestyle of his and my friends life. Besides that they also get a lot of financial support from her mothers side, especially her grandparents. The idea was that if she worked harder in school she could get a well-paying job and help her father and make him proud. So i called her and told her my thoughts in a way that wouldn't sound offensive. I used my mothers past example as she was raised by a single mother and my moms academic success helped her become a financially-independent women. After i ended the call i wasnt really expecting anything until we met a couple of days later.

We sat at a cafe and suddently she started asking me weird questions like "What is friendship for you?" or "How do you see us as friends?". Then the argument started. She explained her feeling yet also calling my mom selfish and egoistic. She said how i always thought i was better than everybody since i have better grades and when it comes to explaining things i always decline since the language im talking with them isn't my first language and i know that i cant explain a topic in a way for them to cleary understand it. So i always said no and told them to ask the teacher. She also mentioned how she told it to other adults and they all said its disrespectful and i have no right to judge their financial state. Now i dont want to sound like the victim in this explanation, because im not and i felt terrible for hurting her. I apologized and acknowledged my mistakes and promised to never say or think such things about a person and we cleared things up. Since then i would actually say that we got closer and expressed our feelings much better. Now sadly the time has ended and i have to continue my last year in highschool without her.

The thing is that after our argument, before i apologized and acknowledge the situation, my bestfriend told some classmates about our situation because they asked what was wrong. Now since she told her point of view, i can imagine her demonizing me from top to bottom. So my two classmates probably got a bad impression of me. I would also like to note that i never ever had an argument with any of my friends about topics like this or even just in general. We always understood eachother and learned from our mistakes and moved on. So other people hearing such things about me is defenetly surprising, and i dont blame them. People argue and make mistakes yet i dont want others to hold a version of me thats partially not true. And because we are all highschoolers, gossip like this spreads very fast.

Its been a long time and most of them probably forgot about it yet i cant fully believe that. My idea was to just stay kind and be polite while focusing on other things like my academics and my other two friends.

Also i have them all on snap yet only one of them has a streak with me while the others just open my snaps and dont say or send anything back. Yet they keep streaks with my bestfriend which means that they're not unactive on the app. Idk if i can predict anything from this. They also follow me on insta.

I would like to hear some advice about my situation. I did ask my parents and all but they just told me to ignore everybody and not care about what they think since i and my friends know myself best and their one impression isnt the defenition of my character. Yet i still care about other people and what they think about me and i genuely want to get to know them better and be casual classmates/friends, especially if we shared 3 years together and now one more. Im open to everything so please be brutally honest.
