Starting my first proper corporate job, any advice?
Hey guys,
I’m 21 and after months of applying, I’ve finally landed my first proper corporate job.
It’s with one of the world’s biggest insurance and risk advisory firms, and I start in a couple of weeks.
The role is entry level, and I’ve actually taken a pay cut to get my foot in the door, but I see it as a long-term investment.
The experience, exposure and having a company like this on my resume should make it worth it.
Over the past year and a bit I’ve become really interested in commercial insurance, and it’s a career I can genuinely see myself building.
I know I’ve got a lot to learn, but I’m ambitious and keen to put in the work.
For those of you who’ve worked your way up in the corporate world, what’s something you wish you knew when you started?
I’m not looking for advice on how to suck up to managers or play office politics.
I’m more interested in the things that actually help you build a good reputation and progress your career.
Things like:
-Habits you wish you started earlier.
-Mistakes to avoid.
-How to stand out for the right reasons.
-Building genuine relationships with senior people.
-Whether LinkedIn or similar networks are actually worth investing time into. If it is, how do you use it properly?
-Anything else that helped you get ahead.
Would love to hear advice from people
