Need advice regarding MBBS internship after a prolonged gap.....

NEED ADVICE ⁉️

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for guidance from people familiar with NMC regulations or anyone who has dealt with similar cases.

I belong to the 2016 MBBS batch (Kerala). I passed all my professional MBBS examinations and started my compulsory internship. Unfortunately, after completing about 2 months of internship, I developed severe anxiety and depression and had to discontinue my internship. I underwent treatment and, because of various circumstances, the gap has now become around 4 years.

I am now fit to resume.

My State Medical Council and college have indicated that rejoining may be possible after completing the required formalities. However, my university has informed me that after I complete the internship, my case may have to be sent to the NMC because of the prolonged interruption.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone from a pre-2019 batch resumed internship after such a long medical gap and successfully obtained their MBBS degree?

  2. Is there any NMC regulation that automatically disqualifies an Indian MBBS student from receiving the degree solely because the internship took more than 2 years to complete?

3.Since I belong to the 2016 batch, do the CRMI Regulations, 2021 or the later 10-year completion rule apply to my batch, or are students admitted before the NMC Act treated differently?

I'm not asking for legal advice, just trying to understand how similar cases have been handled in practice by universities, State Medical Councils, and NMC.

If anyone has personal experience or knows of any relevant judgments or NMC communications, I'd really appreciate your input.

Thank you.
