Is HSBC a good long-term career start? (fresh grad)

Career Path

Hi everyone!

I recently graduated from one of the Big 3 universities with a finance-related degree. I also completed three internships, although most of them were in corporate finance rather than banking.

I recently received an offer from HSBC with a starting salary of around ₱28k–30k per month The role is a back-office operations position based in their Quezon City (UP Technohub) office.

I'm really thankful for the opportunity, but I'm still a bit torn.

I've been seeing a lot of mixed opinions about starting in back-office operations. Some people say it's a great foundation and that HSBC has good internal mobility, while others say it can be difficult to transition into other areas or that career progression can be slower compared to other roles.

I'd really appreciate insights from people who have worked at HSBC or in banking in general.

  • Is ₱28k–30k a reasonable starting salary for a fresh graduate?
  • Is starting in back-office operations a good long-term career move?
  • How's the career progression and internal mobility at HSBC?
  • If you started in operations, where are you now?

I'd really appreciate honest insights and advice. Thank you!
