A Month in the Country - JL Carr

I picked this up thinking it would be a fun, quick read about a summer in the English countryside...

Which it was in a way but I was not prepared for the ending to bring me to tears.

It perfectly captured the almost painful feeling of nostalgia for the undiluted happiness of a specific place & time, specifically in the warm summer months.

There is also an underlying current of the wonder and isolation that comes with having expertise in a specialized artistic field. In general there were moments scattered throughout with great emotional lucidity that managed to put into words feelings that are usually indescribable.

Now is the perfect time to read this little book as the end of summer approaches.
