How do I program Planche training?
After a bit of advice...
I've been training planche since 2024, and have hardly made any progress, I've been stuck on 5-6 second straddle planche (with questionable form) for over a year and a half.
For context, I have been training calisthenics since Jan 2023, I am 5'4/5 and 58-60kg.
If it matters, I train strictly with parallettes
I train Monday-Friday - my split is as follows:
Monday:
-
HSPU- 5x reps for 4-5 sets
-
Muscle Ups - 5x Reps - 3-4x Sets
-
Weighted Pull ups - 1st set bodyweight, 3 with weight
-
Weighted Dips - 1st set bodyweight, 3 with weight
Tuesday (Planche day A):
-
Scapular Push-ups: 2–3 sets x 10 reps
-
Advanced Tuck Holds or Straddle 4–5 sets x 6–10 seconds
-
Pseudo Planche Push-Ups: 3–4 sets x 5–8 reps
-
Planche Leans: 3 sets x 10–12 seconds
Wednesday (Legs)
Thursday (Repeat of Monday)
Friday (Planche day b):
- Scapular Push-ups: 2–3 sets x 10 reps
- Advanced Tuck Holds or Straddle 4–5 sets x 6–10 seconds
- Tuck Press to Handstand: 3 sets x 3–5 reps
- Handstand Negatives to Adv Tuck: 3–4 sets x 3–5 reps
- Planche Leans: 3 sets x 10–12 seconds
Honestly, I don't know how to level up to getting full planche, or even a cleaner straddle. I have tried so many different approaches, from banded holds, to purely attempts, trying dynamics like L-sit to straddle etc.
I think I am also massively overthinking the engagement, simply put I am trying to just literally push the bars down to the ground and away from me to protract, so my shoulder blades are pushed apart, but I am struggling to hold this protraction especially when doing pressing movements or negatives, and even moreso when trying to advance in a progression, my protraction falls off massively in straddle, hence the shorter hold times.
I've probably missed something, but does anyone have any other tips or pointers on how to improve, it is driving me nuts! I unlocked so many skills with ease (FL, FL pull etc) but planche has massively humbled me...
