Never realized I was a “trophy” or “favorite toy” until I talked to my bio fam
So, I always thought things were pretty good with my aParents. They were strict and my aMom leans narcissist a lot, but shes an artist by trade, most are (in my experience anyways). I always had my needs met, and my parents always bragged on me with their peers.
WELLLLLL, cut to me finding my bio parents because I needed medical history (and no, theirs wouldn’t do a dang thing for me or my kids). And now they’re talking about how I’m replacing them because I talk to one of the bios and we’re cool. I was open with them through all the communication and first meetings to try and prevent any feelings of betrayal. Now, I’m told that any time I text, call, see, think about (or anything like that) my bio that I’m directly stealing from my aParents. They also keep repeating the “story they were told” about that bio abusing me (wasn’t true, but social services would *never* lie). I feel like my aMom sees me as her favorite toy that she found and “fixed up”. Now that someone else is even thinking about looking at me, she feels threatened and is acting out. She makes nasty comments about the bio, says she and dad refuse to come to any of the grandkids bday parties if they’re there. Got really upset that the kids met their bio grandparent… I’m shattering her delusion of me somehow miraculously having my genetics swapped to match hers.
I genuinely feel so hurt by my aParents reaction because my aDad doesn’t stop aMom. He feeds/enables it. Is this a common thing? I was so happy about reunion (bio not being an abusive POS, me not having ruined their life, us being the same person in two fonts pretty much) and it feels like that’s getting stripped and I’m getting caught between two sides. Bio has so much respect for my aParents, and it’s hard that they’re so hateful. Anyone else?
