I've realised I don't quit my diet because of one bad day. I quit because I expect day to look the same.
I've been thinking about why I keep restarting my weight loss journey.
For the longest time, I blamed myself for lacking discipline. If I skipped a workout or ate more than I planned, I'd tell myself I was falling back into old habits.
But looking back, I think the bigger problem was that I expected every day to have the same amount of time, energy and motivation.
Some days, meal prep, tracking calories and getting a workout in feels compeltely manageable.
Other days, work is stressful, I'm exhausted or life just gets in the way. The mistake I kept making was treating those 2 days exactly the same. If I couldn't stick to my "perfect" routine, I'd feel like I'd already failed and end up doing nothing.
Lately I've been wondering if consistency is really about adjusting the effort instead of abondoning the goal.
For eg.
- On a good day, I can cook healthy meals and get a full workout in.
- On a busy day, maybe I just go for a 20 minute walk and make one healthier food choice.
- On a really rough day, maybe the win is simply not turning one bad meal into an entire bad weekend.
The goal doesn't change but what success looks like on a given day does.
I'm curious how people will handle this. Do you have a "minimum version" of your routine for difficult days or do you find it's better to keep the same standards regardless of how you're feeling..?
