Why that Maelstrom rush on Juggernaut is losing you games (with actual winrate data)
maelstrom jugg is a trap i see way too often in my games and the numbers back it up. checked immortal bracket stats from this patch and battle fury has a 53.1% winrate across 1,913 games, while maelstrom sits at 45.9% over 233 games. that's a 7 point gap. both get bought around 13-14 minutes so timing isn't the issue, the item just underperforms hard on the hero.
the reason is simple: jugg already farms fast with blade fury and his innate crit. he doesn't need the chain lightning proc to clear waves, and battle fury's flat damage, cleave, and regen scale way better with his attack speed and blade dance. maelstrom builds into mjollnir which gives zero stats, while bf flows naturally into yasha and manta for stats, dispel, and split push. even against illusion lineups like pl or naga, the cleave from bf hits everything in a cone instead of bouncing to just 4 targets after a proc. the magic damage from lightning is negligible compared to physical cleave that pierces spell immunity.
this is aggregate data so it doesn't filter by matchup, but with a sample size that large the trend is clear. if you're climbing and still buying maelstrom on jugg, try the standard treads into battle fury into yasha into manta build instead. your third item can be blink, butterfly, or aghs depending on what you need. the winrates on those are north of 60%, which tells you the bf route sets you up for success late. skip the lightning, trust the cleave.
