Is project-based learning more important than certificates in 2026?
I've been exploring different ways to build a career in software development, and one question keeps coming to my mind:
Do recruiters care more about certificates or real projects?
From what I've seen, many companies now expect candidates to have practical experience, even for entry-level roles. A portfolio with Python, Full Stack, Data Analytics, or AI projects often seems more valuable than simply completing an online course.
Some things that appear to make a difference are:
- Building original projects instead of only following tutorials.
- Keeping code on GitHub.
- Learning Git and basic deployment.
- Practicing problem-solving regularly.
- Working on real-world assignments or internships.
I'm curious about the experiences of people already working in the industry.
What helped you get your first IT job? Were projects more valuable than certificates?
I also came across training institutes that focus on project-based learning and internships, such as Miracle IT Career Academy, Bhopal. Their approach seems to emphasize practical skills rather than only classroom learning.
