# A Little About The Race:

Kiri are a race of something similar to candle people but their flesh is, similar to humans, is carbon based and has similar weaknesses and strengths, albeit it is slightly more durable from more years of evolution. The race used to have Male equivalent members but because of their home planets climatic changes, specifically the heating up of the atmosphere, and racial preference for stronger members surviving longer (Which is equivalent to their body temperature heating up) males started to being born rarer and rarer until completely disappearing. Thanks to high technological advancement in genetic engineering all members of the race have all the chromosomes required for breeding with other humanoid races and thanks to nano engineering the partners gender doesn't matter.

# Home Planet:

The Kiri home planet is a dark and generally cold world located near the outer edge of its star's habitable zone. Despite its low temperature snow is extremely rare due to the planet's dry atmosphere. Most surface water is found in small oasis-like ponds connected to underground water systems, while the few surface oceans cover limited areas but reach extreme depths.

Kiri originally evolved inside vast cave systems where most native predators were vulnerable to strong light. Their glowing hair, eyes and limbs developed as a natural defense against these creatures. Some predators later evolved resistance to light, but by that time the Kiri had already reached human levels of intelligence and maintained their place near the top of the food chain through tools and organized defense.

The natural eyes of Kiri are pale and nearly colorless. The energy inside their body shines through them and gives their eyes the same visible color as their glowing hair and limbs while allowing them to see similarly to other humanoid races.

The caves gradually became warmer because of both early pollution caused by Kiri technological development and an increase in the planet's natural internal heat and geological activity. The pollution and environmental damage were eventually repaired through advanced terraforming, but the natural warming continued. Even after this warming the planet still feels cold to most races accustomed to Earth-like temperatures.

Most major Kiri cities remain inside the cave systems where their civilization first developed. Modern settlements also exist on the surface, though they are scarce and generally treated as villages, resorts or tourism locations rather than major population centers.

# Culture:

Kiri view the use of lifespan as a normal and necessary part of life. Using it for work, protection, battle or personal advancement is often encouraged. However a Kiri who wastes so much of their lifespan that they fail to reach at least 150 years old is generally considered to have wasted their life.

Kiri are a warring race despite their high technological advancement. Strength is the largest deciding factor in leadership and social standing, while the amount and quality of equipment an individual owns represents their wealth. A well equipped Kiri may be influential, but they will not be respected as a leader if they lack strength, skill or experience.

Kiri value individual growth more than growth as part of a group, army or organization. They still form teams and military forces when required, but self made individuals are respected more than those who depend entirely on teamwork, inherited wealth or the achievements of others.

Death during battle is considered respectable as long as the Kiri made an attempt to fight the opponent, disaster or destructive event which caused it. Victory is admired but is not required for the lifespan spent during the struggle to be considered meaningful.

Kiri who avoid using their lifespan are usually seen as eccentric and may be considered slightly cowardly by some individuals. However their desire to live longer is still understood. Those who preserve much of their lifespan often become elders who share their knowledge and memories of past history.

Kiri armor is made from nanomachines and is usually inherited from parent to child. When both parents are Kiri each child inherits a portion of nanomachines from both of them, while children with only one Kiri parent inherit a portion from that parent. The inherited amount does not form a complete armor and every Kiri is expected to build, acquire and program the rest themselves.

Inherited armor is treated as both wealth and a record of the family which owned it before. Each owner adds new commands, forms and functions to it based on their own personality and needs. Keeping inherited armor unchanged without improving it is often seen as a lack of personal growth.

# Growth, Development and Training:

Kiri children are given considerable freedom to develop their own interests, abilities and personal identity. However this freedom does not extend to careless use of lifespan. Children are strictly protected and supervised until they have enough control and understanding to use their racial abilities without placing their future at unnecessary risk.

Language, martial arts and control over racial abilities are considered the most important parts of a Kiri education. Every child is expected to learn how to communicate clearly, defend themselves and safely control the amount of lifespan used by their abilities.

Programming, first aid and other sciences which improve survival and personal growth are treated as secondary but still important subjects. Other areas of education are considered less essential and are usually pursued depending on the interests, talents or intended path of the individual.

Kiri schools focus more on developing capable and independent individuals than producing students who think and act identically. Teachers maintain strict control over safety and basic training, but excessive control over a child's interests or future is generally discouraged. Once the required skills are learned, students are expected to choose their own specializations and gradually develop methods suited to their abilities, armor and inherited racial traits.

# Birth:

Kiri are born after 2 year long pregnancy in a cocoon with a fuse (Which is the newborns hair), which after being lit up by a parent burns up until all of the newborns hair is burnt up and results in a explosion which breaks the cocoon and after which the newborn wakes up with unnaturally long hair, which shows its lifespan. The hair is intangible.

**Clarification**: Newborns are born with Physical hair inside the cocoon. After the hair is burnt up by the parent it explodes into the intangible energy based hair.

# Racial Genetics:

Kiri racial genes are extremely strong and usually remain the dominant genes when breeding with other humanoid races. Children born from a Kiri parent will almost always possess the main Kiri racial traits, including energy based hair, high body temperature, glowing limbs and the ability to use lifespan as energy.

Traits inherited from the non-Kiri parent are usually traits which are already genetically strong or dominant within that race. This is why a Kiri child may inherit horns, unusual ears, eyes, claws, tails or other notable features while still remaining physically and biologically Kiri.

Usually only 1 or 2 traits are inherited from the non-Kiri parent. In rare cases 3 traits may be inherited, though inheriting more than this is extremely uncommon. The inherited traits may be purely physical or may include limited biological abilities, depending on the race of the non-Kiri parent.

Inherited traits do not replace the main Kiri racial features. Instead they develop alongside them and may be slightly altered by Kiri biology. For example inherited horns may become heat resistant, inherited claws may glow while abilities are being used and inherited eyes may naturally match the color of the Kiri's hair and glowing limbs.

# Abilities:

Kiri have access since childhood to multiple abilities that help them survive the harsh world of their home planet but cost them some of their lifespan.

**Such Abilities Are**;

1: Temporary hardening of their skin in selected areas.

2: Explosive strengthening of their limbs.

**Clarification**: A regular punch of an average Kiri is equivalent to the strength of an average human. Similarly the strength differs from exercise degree and experience in martial arts field.

A strengthened punch of an average Kiri would 4x the strength of the average punch. Just because the example provided is punching doesn't mean this ability can only be used for combat. It can be used for fleeing, lifting heavy objects and other activities requirering use of strength.

3: Throwable projectiles like beams of fire and fireballs or just lighting of fire similar to ligher. Such abilities come out only from glowing limbs of Kiri.

The lifespan use is dependent on the power and lenght of use of such abilities, which can range from as low as a singular second of lifespan wasted to as much as their whole lifespan.

Of course proficiency level of use is required to use stronger and longer versions of said abilities.

**Clarification**: For example a child without any experience in using their racial abilities wont be able to waste even a year of its life unlike a much more experienced average adult.

# Weaknesses:

Similar to other humanoids the head, stomach, chest and neck are the weak points of the race. Unlike the other humanoids Kiri try to defend the base of their head where the hair connects to their scalp from water. Getting their head covered with water wont downright kill a Kiri because the temperature made by them is too high for any conventional amount of water to put out their fire but it will shorten their lifespan. Kiri use their abnormally long lifespan as weapon and the heavier they hit the more they lose.

**Heat Resistance**: Due to their naturally high body temperature and their energy based hair Kiri have a very high resistance to fire, heat and other similar effects. Regular fire, heated environments and even most artificially created flames wont cause serious damage to a Kiri. Their own flames and the heat produced by their abilities are naturally harmless to them as long as said abilities are used within the limits their body is capable of safely handling.

Kiri are not completely immune to heat. Sufficiently powerful heat sources can still injure them, especially if the temperature is much higher than anything naturally found on their home planet. Their internal organs are also more vulnerable than their skin and limbs, meaning that heat created inside their body can be more dangerous than an outside flame.

**Overuse Injuries**: The amount of lifespan used is not the only thing that determines how dangerous an ability is. The speed at which the lifespan is used is equally important. A Kiri could safely use multiple years of lifespan over a long period of time, while trying to use the same amount in a fraction of a second could damage the limb through which the power was released.

When a Kiri forces more energy through a limb than their body can safely handle the energy begins heating up the flesh from the inside. This can result in pain, glowing cracks across the skin, temporary loss of feeling, damaged muscles and the affected limb becoming unable to glow or use abilities for a period of time.

More severe overuse can cause internal burns, permanent damage to the glowing parts of the limb or complete destruction of the affected tissue. Such injuries are rare among experienced Kiri because they generally know the limits of their own body and armor.

Children are naturally protected from causing such injuries because their body limits how much lifespan they can use at once. In situations of extreme danger or stress a child may temporarily exceed this limit, similarly to how other humanoids can display abnormal physical strength under extreme conditions. Even then the amount of lifespan they can use remains significantly lower than that of an experienced adult and can cause exhaustion, fever or injury afterwards.

# Water Vulnerability:

Water is only harmful when it directly covers the scalp where a Kiri’s energy hair connects to their body. Contact with their hair away from the scalp has no harmful effect, and the rest of their body is no more vulnerable to water than that of another humanoid.

Water does not extinguish a Kiri’s energy hair or kill them immediately. Instead, prolonged contact with the scalp causes a gradual loss of lifespan. The severity depends on both the volume of water and the duration of exposure.

Small amounts of water, rain, splashes or brief submersion cause little to no meaningful harm. Even having the head fully submerged for a short period would usually result in no more than several days or approximately one week of lost lifespan.

Larger volumes of water become increasingly dangerous when they remain around the scalp for extended periods. Hot water is generally less effective because it vaporizes more quickly against a Kiri’s high body temperature, while colder water remains in contact longer and can cause greater lifespan loss.

Because of this vulnerability, Kiri commonly protect the base of their hair when swimming, bathing or entering environments where prolonged exposure to water is likely.

# Fantasy Setting Version:

Most aspects of the Kiri remain unchanged when used in a fantasy setting. Their lifespan, energy hair, glowing limbs, high body temperature, birth process, inherited racial traits, weaknesses and ability to use lifespan as power remain the same. Their culture, education, social values and preference for individual growth are also unchanged.

Their basic racial abilities are innate forms of magic. Kiri can temporarily harden parts of their skin, explosively strengthen their limbs and create flames or projectiles from their glowing limbs by consuming portions of their lifespan. More advanced or specialized uses must be learned through training and magical study.

**Magical Armor**: Instead of nanomachine armor Kiri create magical armor which develops alongside them throughout their life. The owner gradually adds new materials, forms, spells and enchantments according to their wealth, experience and preferred fighting style.

Children inherit spells, enchantments and magical techniques developed by their parents and earlier members of their family. These inherited methods serve as a foundation for creating their own armor, but every Kiri is expected to alter, improve and expand upon them rather than simply copying what came before.

The amount and quality of magical equipment still represents wealth, while strength, skill and personal progress remain the greater deciding factors of respect and leadership.

Programming is replaced by the study of runes, enchantments, magical commands and spell construction. Their advanced genetic and environmental sciences are replaced by ancient magical knowledge, including permanent biological alteration and large-scale magic capable of changing or restoring entire environments.

**Home Biome**: Kiri originate from a dark and generally cold region formed around enormous cave systems. Snow is extremely rare due to the dry climate, though water can be found in underground rivers, deep lakes, flooded chasms and small oasis-like ponds where subterranean water reaches the surface.

Most native predators developed within darkness and are vulnerable to strong light. The glowing hair, eyes and limbs of the Kiri originally evolved as a natural defense against these creatures. Some predators eventually developed resistance, but by then the Kiri had already reached humanoid levels of intelligence and defended themselves through weapons, magic and organized settlements.

The caves gradually became warmer due to growing underground heat and magical geological activity. Even so, the region still feels cold to most races accustomed to milder climates.

Most large Kiri settlements remain within the cave systems where their civilization first developed. Smaller settlements exist above ground, though they are generally treated as remote villages, resorts or places visited for travel rather than major population centers.
