How to Dodge Death Rite Bird Explosion?

There have always been a handful of attacks in Elden Ring which seem impossible to dodge, but eventually the community finds a way to carefully avoid them.

One attack by the Death Rite Birds is an exception, at least for me.

For the most part these bosses are fairly simple to dodge, but rarely they will light their weapon on fire and unleash a devastating aoe attack.

Normally these would be fairly simple to avoid by just running away from the explosion, but this particular attack extends in a star shape. Even if you escape the original blast, if you get unlucky you will be hit anyway.

This is a lingering hitbox so simply dodging doesn’t seem to work. You’ll still be hit by the flames on the ground.

The only way I’ve found to somewhat deal with this attack is to block it with a shield. You still take a ton of damage, but at least it’s manageable. Does anyone know of a better way?
