Aftertaste
This is the first poem I've ever written. I'd truly appreciate your honest reaction—whether you liked it or not. Thank you for reading.
Aftertaste
Whenever your memory finds me,
I sink into an endless sea of sorrow,
As though I were abandoned
On a world where no soul has ever lived.
Yet when I search my own reflection,
I realize the cruelest truth—
I've been stranded there
Perhaps for all my life.
It devours me from within,
Feeding on every thought, every feeling,
Until nothing remains of who I once was.
And no matter how I try,
I cannot escape the memory
Of your captivating gaze,
A gaze that leaves my heart
Knowing only your name.
Whenever your memory finds me,
I raise my eyes to the night sky...
Among the stars
I find the outline of your gentle smile,
Your eyes like uncut gemstones—
Beautiful long before the world
Could ever shape them.
You look upon me like Aphrodite herself,
The goddess to whom beauty belongs.
And I...
Nothing more than a common man,
Quietly hoping
For the grace of a goddess.
