AIO my friend’s father in law was giving me too much hugs?

So 4 years ago I had a summer job at the same place as my friend and his father in law. Pretty often mine and mine friend’s shifts didn’t match, because both of us were new to this job and usually they don’t give the same shift to more than one new worker. I was working on the stand with ice cream outside close to the cafe, and in the cafe there was working my friend’s father in law, sometimes when I needed some stuff I would grab it from the cafe cause everything was stored there. And pretty often when I would go inside this cafe, my friend’s dad in law would try to touch me, mostly giving me hugs from behind, touching my hand or shoulder, give me a “half hug”)idk how do I call this type of hug in English”) and it was just weird. I told once to my friend why does his dad in law love to hug so much, and my friend was shocked and said that he doesn’t really do that. I said that he does it pretty often with me and my friend didn’t know how to react at all (when I was telling him that, I didn’t know that this dude was dating his mom), then he said that this dude dates him mom, so it’s weird if he would be giving me too much hugs…

Idk tbh, I thought that he was giving me hugs cause he thought that me and my friend were dating (what wasn’t even remotely the truth), and he tried to get somehow closer to me idk and hug me that much?
What is interesting, is that when my friend was with us around his dad in law would be much more distant from me, xD.

I’m confused and idk if I’m overreacting, especially because of my friend’s reaction to that back in time , even tho my friend is a very empathetic person.

I’m still thinking about this situation till this day, because my friend’s dad in law is living together with his mom and they have a kid who is 2-3 yo. And this dude seem to be a very gooood dad, and husband.
