Question

Reservation should not apply to professions where competence directly affects lives.

This is probably going to be unpopular, but I think there are certain professions where admissions should be based solely on merit, regardless of category.

I recently read that all IITs placement cell reportedly had to discourage students from listing their JEE rank and marks on resumes. That got me thinking about reservation in high-stakes professions.

Personally, I don't think reservation should apply in fields where mistakes can cost lives or have massive public safety implications. Medicine, the armed forces, civil engineering, aviation, and similar professions.

My reasoning isn't about denying historical discrimination or the need for social mobility. I understand why reservation exists. My concern is whether professions that directly impact public safety should have a single, uniform entry standard for everyone.

I definitely do not want a doctor touching a patient who scored -ve marks in a pg exam after 5 years of mbbs. I can justify using reservation once maybe when they enter for the UG degree, but nothing can justify the incompetence after t years of mbbs and again using reservation, even after getting -ve marks.

Would it be wild if doctors started showcasing their scores during mbbs, pg, and the entrance exams?

If you disagree, I'd genuinely like to hear why.

Curious to hear both sides.
