Do not bring Meta glasses to Egypt

Not sure who needs to hear this, but if you’re traveling to Egypt anytime soon, leave your metas at home or pack them deep in your checked bag.

I’ve brought mine to several countries with zero issues, but Egypt security gets really mad about them. Unlike drones, there are no posted signs anywhere saying they're restricted so enforcement is completely arbitrary. Sometimes they let you through, other times they will start freaking out.

Any location with an X-ray scanner (hotels, pyramids, museums) will flag them as "spy gear" or camera glasses and make you leave them behind. I got mine confiscated at the pyramid entrance and after putting up a fight they gave it back to me when I left.

It’s even worse at domestic airport security checkpoints, where they'll pull you aside, interrogate you about what you're filming, and drag out the process. After going back and forth at the Hurghada Airport, the guy told me to just check it in my luggage even though I got through Cairo airport just fine

If you have to bring them (like prescription pairs), throw them deep in your checked luggage so they aren't going through carry-on scanners. Otherwise, save yourself the stress and interrogation and just leave them home.
