Was Super Mario 64 false advertising?

I can imagine one in 1996 buying Super Mario 64 from having the impression from the title that Nintendo had made 63 Mario title games before this, when at that point excluding ports the number of Mario title games at that point was only in the 40s.

The other 3D Marios have inaccurate titles too, Sunshine isn't the first Sunshine game when Super Mario Bros. 3 has the Angry Sun, the Galaxy titles should have began with 3 then 4 because Mario Party 2 and 5 already had boards set in space. Odyssey falsely implies that there was already a Super Mario Iliad.

In 2026 Super Mario 64 as a title downplays how much experience the developers have making Mario games but back in 1996 the title was misleading to the consumer that the developers had more practice and experience making Mario games then they did then and the consumer would have had inaccurately high expectations for the quality of the product.
