Can we stop insisting the future is all bad, and already written?
No one really has this supernatural ability to be 100% certain about the future… many just make up BS claims about it like they do everything else.
I mean yeah the future as a setting is still ripe for building a story if you’re passionate about it… unfortunately many also get too absorbed into that fiction to tell apart the difference from reality that they immediately assume every single bit of lore from an apocalyptic vision of the future just signed our death warrants. It can even go as far as just witnessing the setting of The Hunger Games and be like “Children enslaved in competition for freedom? Welp, there goes my sanity” and not even check into the author’s background of studying Greek mythology which makes it more of an allegory really. Plus Blade Runner took place in the year 2019, which turned out to be nothing like that movie, so who’s to say “2049” will be any different.
Don’t even get me started on Dune, that is many tens of thousands of years out of the way.
