Buying Pokopia digital

I currently have the game as a digital game key. I love it so mucht that i want the DLC as well. But lets say that in the future (black friday) the game goes on sale. If the base game goes on sale can i still buy it and the bought dlc will automatically work? Or am I stuck with using a digital game cartridge?
