think twice b4 joining iiit sri city ece...

I am a second year ECE student here and I am regretting my decision. Some points to consider before you add it in your preference list:

1. Most of the professors here are bad/rude and are super egoistic. One or two of them even speak with a very heavy accent and start arguing if you ask them to reiterate.

Yes some profs are actually good though. But they are a minority.

2. Administration is trash and has promised a new hostel and academic block but work has been going on for a long time with no signs of progressing. Meanwhile they are promising even more buildings but all of us know none of them will be completed in the stipulated time.

For example, they published a tender for installing geysers in boys hostels last year - that never came to fruition but they have republished the same tender again this year.

Also the hostel internet connection is pathetic sometimes.

P.S.: Girls don't even have a hostel.

3. The food in the mess heavily skews towards southern tastes. Which is fine and managable; What is not managable is the hygiene. I found a dead cockroach on my plate. A friend of mine got served chicken pieces along with his paneer biyrani. I don't even know how that is possible.

4. The place is secluded... like REALLY devoid of fun activities/tourist locations. This is because Sri City is an industrial area. That combined with poor sports infra doesn't really help matters.

Yes, Chennai is "only" 2 hours away but that only benefits peeps from Chennai who visit their home every weekend.

5. The weather can get crazy sometimes. A few months back there were crazy storms and still classes weren't cancelled (shitty administration).

6. Don't even join ECE here (or any mid IIIT for that matter) hoping for good core placements... Or any good placements for that matter You have to be exceptional to get core ECE placements here. Nvidia visited but didnt even take anyone.

Most ECE guys go for IT placements - and even there you have to have a profile 2x of your CSE counterparts to get similar packages.

7. The fees are high. Think twice before taking a loan to come and study here. Some of my friends regret it already.

VERDICT:

I will again like to reiterate, do not join ECE here hoping for good placements. Some other IIITs CSE will provide you similar opps. Doing ECE and developing dev skills at the same time is just difficult considering the ECE workload. And if you do have interest in ECE just choose anything between similar IIITs (Nagpur, Guwahati, Pune) with distance from your home as a criteria.
