just finished sotth and confused a little

As the title suggests, i just completed sotth (very nice game) And while reading title screen, there was a line "Eleven years later, Lara Croft's reimagined origin story is drawing to a close." At first i thought that the game series is ending damn what a pity then remembered about catalyst and atlantis and thought then how close exactly is it drawing? And then i saw the post credits cutscene where she writes a mail to natla (which is that bad woman from old games right?), so basically they wanted to end the series first, but then decided to make 2 more games from a single cutscene? Did i get this right?
