GIS Certificate

Hi everyone, I’m currently an civil engineering student and there’s an opportunity at my university to do a GIS certifcate. I was wondering how is the field and would this certificate help me in my career? Also are GIS classes in university really technical and hard? Thank you in advance for any info and help.
