DVT at 37, rash after starting rivaroxaban (Xarelto), now on antihistamines while continuing treatment – anyone else had a similar experience?

I’m a 37-year-old male who was recently diagnosed with an extensive DVT in my leg. I underwent catheter-directed thrombolysis, and my vascular surgeon was able to clear most of the clot. My follow-up veinogram has been encouraging, and I’m recovering well overall.
I was initially started on rivaroxaban (Xarelto) 15 mg twice daily (30 mg/day). After completing that phase, my dose was reduced to 20 mg once daily, which is my current dose.
Around the time I started rivaroxaban, I developed generalized itching along with a few faint pink rashes. There was no facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction.
I met my vascular surgeon today to review my blood work. Most of my thrombophilia testing was unremarkable, but my homocysteine was mildly elevated, and a couple of the antibody values were around 18 (slightly above the reference range). My surgeon wasn’t overly concerned at this stage and plans to repeat these tests in a few months after the acute DVT phase and, if appropriate, after anticoagulation, to see whether these findings persist.
The good news is that the itching and rashes have now resolved while taking an antihistamine. Since I’m doing well, my vascular surgeon advised me to continue rivaroxaban (Xarelto) 20 mg once daily together with the antihistamine and monitor things closely rather than switching anticoagulants. If the rash returns or becomes more significant, we’ll reconsider the medication.
Has anyone here experienced something similar?

  1. Mild itching or rash after starting rivaroxaban (Xarelto) that improved while continuing the medication?
  2. Continued taking Xarelto with an antihistamine instead of switching to another anticoagulant?
  3. Had mildly elevated homocysteine or borderline antibody results soon after a DVT that later normalized on repeat testing? He has prescribed me vitamin b12 twice a day to reduce homocystine level.

I am from India and so used AI to help me write my post and I am also using it to track my recovery progress as I am managing it alone. Please be kind.. Thanks.
