Why do some of the most outwardly religious people end up being the biggest liars?

This isn't an attack on religion or everyone who believes in God. I know there are genuinely kind and honest religious people.

I'm just sharing something I've personally noticed and experienced.

Has anyone else met people who constantly talk about God, pray every day, go to church every week, and quote Bible verses—but their actions are the complete opposite?

I dated someone who was very religious. At first, I thought his faith reflected his character. He prayed, read the Bible, and always talked about doing the right thing. I genuinely believed I had met a good person.

But over time, I discovered he was lying, cheating, manipulating people, and using others for his own benefit.

The most ironic part? When I confronted him about everything, instead of taking accountability, he simply read a bible on the call hahahah

That really stuck with me.

It made me realize that being religious and being a good person aren't automatically the same thing. Faith can be beautiful, but character is shown through actions—not by how often someone goes to church or quotes scripture.

Has anyone else experienced this, or did I just meet the wrong person?
