Honestly, things just took a massive turn today. Everyone was basically waiting for the news to drop that US bombs had landed in Iran after Trump posted they were fully locked and loaded. But right before launch orders went through, the whole thing got pulled back.

According to reporting by Reuters, Trump made the call to halt the strikes after urgent, frantic appeals from Middle Eastern allies who begged the White House to pause and let diplomacy work.

The Wall Street Journal dropped more details on this, revealing that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman placed a direct phone call to Trump. He warned him straight up that bombing Iran would trigger an uncontrollable firestorm and leave Gulf oil fields wide open to retaliatory strikes. Interestingly, WSJ also mentioned the UAE had previously been pushing Washington to take a much harder military stance, so the Gulf states are clearly split on this.

Meanwhile, Israeli military leaders were caught completely off guard. As detailed by The Times of Israel, Israeli officials got zero advance warning about the decision and literally found out Trump called off the planned strikes by reading his Truth Social post. Joint US-Israeli planning was already done, so Tel Aviv is proper furious right now.

Over in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump claimed a deal was basically done to reopen the waterway for commercial ships. But straight up, Tehran shut that down instantly. As reported by Moneycontrol, Iran’s foreign ministry flatly rejected his claims, saying no deal exists and the blockade stays fully active. Al Jazeera also cited Iranian officials confirming that quiet backchannel talks are happening in Muscat, Oman, but nothing is signed yet.

Look, recent polling shows about 67% of voters feel these back-and-forth decisions are actively hurting US security interests. European partners are privately venting about the lack of any clear exit strategy from Washington, and regional tension is still through the roof.

What do you guys think? Is Washington actually trying to avoid a massive war here, or are they just losing control of the whole situation?
