Men 28+ What's your take on this?
Hi everyone.
28F and recently got engaged. I lived abroad for several years and have now moved back to Malawi. My fiancé and I get along really well, have similar values, good careers, and we genuinely enjoy being together.
There's one thing I've been thinking about though. He knows I don't cook very often, but I don't think he realizes that I actually don't enjoy cooking at all. It's never been something I've liked, and I don't see myself wanting to do it regularly in marriage.
I'd happily contribute in other ways, and I have a stable, well-paying job. We could probably afford a house help at some point, but I'm thinking more about the early years of marriage when it might just be the two of us.
I'm also factoring in the cultural reality of family life in Malawi. I know my preferences are valid and important, but I'm also trying to approach this realistically and understand how other people would view it before having that conversation.
So I'm curious to hear from men, especially those who are 28 or older.
If you were dating someone who told you before marriage that she really doesn't like cooking and doesn't expect to be the one cooking most of the time, how would you react?
Would you be open to sharing the cooking 50-50? Would you be willing to do most of the cooking if you didn't mind it? Or would that be something you'd struggle with?
I'd also appreciate hearing from married men. If your wife had told you this before marriage, how would you have handled it, and what arrangement do you think would have worked best?
I'm genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives. This isn't about proving who's right or wrong. I'm just trying to understand how people think about this in practice
