It feels like we're just hurting each other, what can we do? (F27/F23)
We've been in a long distance relationship for 5 years. Back then it seemed like we could go on indefinitely like this, waiting til we could finally live together. We were both working on our lives and building toward each other, we got our first jobs a few years back and started making plans to close the distance
This year in April we finally met. I took vacation for the first time in my two years working, two full weeks so we could be together with each other fully.
It was everything we both imagined and more. We were in pure bliss for those full two weeks, we even celebrated her birthday together. For the first time we felt free, felt loved. I didn't know I could feel that safe.
Then reality came back. The two weeks ended and she had to fly back.
We knew there'd be a mourning period, but we figured it would just fuel us to work harder to be together. What we didn't expect was to spend weekend after weekend crying, and for weeks to turn into months, for us to still feel the same. It's been 4 months, and the pain only seems to have amplified. It isn't the quiet humming it was before, it's unending now.
The soonest we might be able to meet again would be around April of next year, for another measly handful of weeks. After that we're supposed to just somehow decide which country to live in, who abandons their life and begins a multi-year process to immigrate. So at a minimum 3 more years until we could live together.
If we have barely been able to make it 4 months, how are we supposed to make it 3 years? That's not even including all the other ways life gets in the way. What if we go a full decade before we're able to actually be together? Is this really the only option?
TL;DR: After LDR for 5 years we finally closed the distance and now realize how unbearable the distance is. The thought of waiting multiple years more is tearing us apart, I want to know if anyone sees something I don't, some way out of this.
