Why we hired an H1B
They were ready to relocate !! Yes - thats it .
It was a niche role in semiconductors and interviewed more citizens and green card holders than anyone requiring sponsorship.
From the first email itself it was made very clear that it is an onsite job. The top most candidate refused to move next in line was a veteran who said they can fly to office once a month. We thanked them for their service and said no thank you ! We picked up our best candidate after that who required visa sponsorship and we happily offered it.
I am here because went through the same process 10 years back and now a citizen.
I am here to tell you that there is no dearth of talent in US but right placement is very important. But please don’t be another sheep in the herd when it comes to bashing visa holders. We paid the same salary and on top of that are paying for immigration as well.
Market is tough and we gotta be flexible with relocation and coming to office more often. Don’t hope that because you will be so stellar in the interview that they will make an exception and let you work remote. No We WONT!!
