What to purchase for photo printing & general printing (<$300)

Purchasing

What would you like to accomplish?

I'm looking $300 or less for something that can print photos well enough but also be used as a general printer for regular documents and coloring pages. I don't want anything reliant on an ink subscription or monthly page allowances, and would really love for it to be able to use 3rd party inks/papers without jumping through hoops to make it work.

Are there any models you are currently looking at?

I have looked at models like:

Canon PIXMA TR4720

Epson Expression Premium XP-6100

Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: $300 or less
  • Country: USA
  • Color or black and white: Color
  • Laser or ink printer: Not sure
  • New or used: New
  • Multi-function: Copying/scanning yes
  • Duplex Printing: preferred but not necessary
  • Home or business: Home
  • Printing content: Photo & General documents
  • Printing frequency: weekly
  • Pages per minute: Doesn't matter if quality dependent
  • Page size: Average printer size I guess
  • Device printing from: Laptops or phones/tablets
  • Connection type: Wireless preferred

Any other details:

-I have searched this sub and read through a lot of posts already, as well as the subscription misconceptions.

-I'm a photographer, and i'm not expecting archival paper and ink quality at $300, but I want to be able to easily/casually print out some of my own photos I take each month and save them so i'm not bulk ordering them from consumer printing labs 2-3 times a year. No larger than an 8x10 but primarily 5x7's or smaller probably.

-I often need to print out random things in just black & white like coloring pages and "schematics" for my son's creative uses, as well as just regular paper documents ocassionally.

-I would prefer something that I can get 3rd party ink for uses like regular document printing and coloring pages, but use better grade ink for photo printing. Not sure if any name brand printers in my price range still allow usage like this.

-I really dislike HP so i'd like to avoid them as much as possible. It's the principle at this point.
