"Reddit is a left-wing echo chamber"
I've found myself vexed by how utterly overwhelming this position is on here. It's pretty damn clear to anyone left of Reagan that Reddt's community bias is liberal rather than leftist, but the myth of Reddit being a left-wing bubble persists. I can't fathom why it does though, if you really dig into it this site isn't even consistently left leaning in the cultural outlooks it takes.
Like if you go on any large sub you'll find some of the most rampant casual transphobia you'll ever find outside of ovarit and mumsnet, and this has been a pattern for years now. It's just kind of accepted and normalized in reddit culture that "we should be nice to trans people but they aren't 'really' the gender they identify and live as". Add to that the fact that pretty much anything left of Obama in political discussions in popular subs is treated as pie in the sky fantasizing.
Like I really don't get how this site gets broadly characterized as left-wing, is it just because the majority of English speaking users on here are in the western politics bubble of thinking that liberalism *is* the left? Is it just fashies and libertarians complaining about getting downvoted for reccomending that the poor be ground up into biofuel? I don't get it, I really don't. I mean sure I might be biased from my time browsing SRS in high school, but fuck, SRS isn't even the reddit boogeyman anymore.
