Daily Framing Watch: The same 6-3 ruling was a clean win on the left and "the next Roe" on the right
Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship

How the left framed it
CNN built its coverage around "takeaways from the Supreme Court's rebuke of Trump," and The New Republic ran with Trump "rattled badly" and MAGA in meltdown. The Guardian led on Trump's threat to take the fight to Congress. These outlets reported the win accurately but spent their analysis on Trump's reaction. The exception was The Bulwark (center-left), the only outlet to note that the same ruling "cleared the way for potentially the largest revocation of legal immigration status in American history."
How the right framed it
Center-right outlets treated the 6-3 loss as a battle, not a settled question. The Daily Caller told conservatives to treat birthright citizenship "like the next Roe v. Wade," and RCP amplified Mollie Hemingway's Dred Scott comparison. The Washington Examiner argued the Court "blessed the birth tourism industry," centering an Orange County investigation into maternity hotels as the practical fallout. None treated the constitutional question as closed.
The gap
Two numbers each surfaced in exactly one outlet. The NYT was alone in reporting that legal scholars found the 6-3 margin "surprisingly close" for a conservative supermajority, and Fortune was the only one to attach a $7.7 trillion economic value to the decision. The left read it as a clean win, the right as a mobilization target, and the two details that complicate both readings barely traveled.
