New to Boglehead investing. Am I doing this right?
Hi I (M, 31), am new to the Boglehead philosophy and would love feedback back on my retirement and investment portfolios. Am I on the right path?
My goal is to max out my Roth IRA and HSA each year and then focus on my taxable brokerage account. I am already contributing the max to my employer’s (state government) sponsored retirement account and HSA. I hope to invest at least 15% of my net salary each year in all my accounts.
I have 6 months of expenses in a HYSA.
Thrift Savings Plan (TSP):
I’m no longer employed by the federal government so I can’t contribute, but I can change which funds I’m invested into.
70% C Fund (S&P 500 Index)
20% I Fund (international index)
10% S Fund (small cap stock index)
HSA through my employer:
Has about 31 Vanguard funds to choose between.
85% VIIIX
15% VTPSX
Roth IRA:
80% SWPPX
20% VXUS
Retirement account with my employer (state government):
This account is split between a pension (that I’m maxing out my contribution with a partial employer match. These funds cannot be invested) and two investable portions, similar to a 401(k), that I am maxing out with partial employer contribution. I can only choose from a list of mostly BlackRock funds for these investments.
Investment portion #1: 85% in LIYAX, which tracks various index funds, such as Russell 1000 and Russell 2000. And then 15% in ACWX, which tracks large- and mid-cap stocks in developed and emerging markets.
Investment Portion #2: 100% in a Stock Fund which tracks the S&P 500. This is technically a collective investment trust.
Taxable Brokerage:
85% ETFs and Index Funds. Of that 85%, I will have 75% in VTI and 30% in ETFs that cover other markets, such as renewable energy, European defense, and semiconductors.
15% is in individual stocks.
Thank you!!
