AITA for refusing to change our schedule to accommodate our friends after they became parents?

Our friends had a baby last year, and since then their lives have obviously changed. We completely understand that. We don't expect them to work around our schedule because their child comes first.

What bothers us is that they seem to expect us to work around theirs.

My work schedule has been the same for the last four years: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a two-hour break. I love my job, recently got promoted, and don't mind the hours. This schedule existed long before they became parents, and it was never a problem.

Since the baby was born, we've only seen them about three times. Honestly, that's okay with us. They're very strict about the baby's routine, and we respect that. If that's what works for their family, great.

The issue is that they think we're not making enough effort because we won't leave work early to visit them before 8 p.m. on weekdays. I finish work at 7 p.m., so leaving earlier simply isn't an option.

Weekends aren't much easier. They don't want to meet at restaurants, cafés, or terraces because they don't want the baby in noisy environments. Their son is healthy—this is just the parenting choice they've made, and we respect it. What we don't understand is why everyone else is expected to adapt to that choice.

We have limited free time and enjoy spending it together, whether that's going out for dinner, having a drink, or staying home to watch a movie. They almost always expect us to come to their house instead. They never seem willing to meet somewhere else, even though where we live is very kid-friendly and we always suggest inexpensive places, so money isn't the issue.

Today my friend suggested that my company should have someone cover my work so I wouldn't have to work so much and we'd be able to see each other more often. That really annoyed me. My company has already hired another person, but I also have more responsibilities because I was promoted. I love my job and I'm not willing to change it just so we can socialize more often.

From our perspective, our schedule isn't why we don't see each other. It has been exactly the same for years. The difference is that they're no longer flexible at all while expecting us to be completely flexible.

We've never asked them to change their parenting choices. If they can only meet at certain times or prefer staying home, we accept that. Sometimes we'll make it work, sometimes we won't. We also don't think close friendships require seeing each other every week. We have friends we only see a few times a year, and nothing changes.

We understand that having a baby means making sacrifices. We just don't think it's reasonable to expect everyone else to make them too.

So, AITA for refusing to change our schedule and lifestyle to accommodate our friends?
