Small stroke of genius I had
A popular interpretation of Backrooms is that it's a critique of GenAI. The way it constantly gets details wrong and creates things without any rhyme, reason, or purpose are usually used in support of this. I want to add on to that by bringing up how the Backrooms are used.
When Async first discovered the Complex, they advertised it to the DoE as a solution to all logistical problems, much like how when AI first became big, all the big tech companies were (and still are) saying that it's the future of humanity and will make everyone's lives easier.
In Clark's case, he got hooked on the idea that within the Backrooms, he wouldn't be judged, called out, or told to change. All the Still Lives he found were compliant, and he used them to validate his own delusions and actions. Now think about ChatGPT, and how one of the many flaws it has is that it always wants to agree with the user. No matter what you say to it, it'll agree with you.
