My “Partner” broke up with me before my surgery, and did not show up for the procedure.
I came to the ER on Friday, for minor, but persistent pain. Turns out, I had to have my gallbladder removed. My partner and I had been at odds all week, so when they dropped me off, I advised them that they did not have to stay. They stayed and pretty much gave me the cold shoulder the entire time. I kept telling them it was okay to leave, but they didn’t. They just stayed and made it obvious that they were “mad” at me. I ended up asking them to leave for my peace.
He left, but came back the next day. Still the cold shoulder, no checking in on me or anything. He also kept leaving the room to make phone calls. Finally he says he’s going home for a while (to play D&D, I find out later). So I bring his behavior up. I tell him how this is stressful and making me uncomfortable. If he feels this is irreparable, we should break up. He does. He had been hinting all week, saying “maybe I should find someone else, since he’s not the man I need”. I’ve never said that. He also said he planned to break up with me after surgery.
The day of surgery, he texted me asking for surgery time. I was already being prepped by that time and didn’t see it. He supposedly showed up(per his mom), but despite knowing where my room was, apparently left. I checked with the staff, no one even came up here for me. He sent two generic text messages, no calls or anything. He spent the day in Discord playing games and watching movies. I asked him to bring me clothes, he said he would “when the movie went off”. I asked for company, he stayed maybe 20
Minutes. This also did not stop him from telling everyone my medical business without my consent.
He left me hanging in major ways. His mom suggested couples therapy, and at first I was on board, but as I lay in this hospital room by myself, I realized that I can’t be with someone who decides a fitting punishment because they are mad, is to abandon their partner during a surgery. Surgeries already make me nervous, due to the fact that I lost my mom during one. And when I needed him, he was nowhere to be found.
Honestly, I’m sad, but my mind is clear. I could never trust a person like that. I don’t want to live my life, with a person like that.
