Why do people judge you if you say no to getting into a trade?
This isn’t about myself, but something I’ve noticed first hand.
Say someone doesn’t have college degree and doesn’t know what they want to do with their life. A person suggest getting in a trade.
You tell them you’re not interested into getting into a trade and when they ask why you tell them:
- Don’t want to destroy your body
- Don’t want to work really long hours
- Don’t want to be stuck in the elements, tight spaces or get dirty
- Don’t want to wake up at 4am
- Don’t feel it’s worth the money in the long run.
If you say that to this person they kinda look mad at you for having that opinion. Sometimes even calling you “soft hands”
What’s up with that? You don’t HAVE to get into a trade if you never got a college degree and you also don’t really need a college degree to land a good paying job.
Of course it may be easier for some but it’s not for everyone. Especially nowadays. Actually my dad dropped out of high school, got his GED and now makes $150-$175k a year at his job. Granted he’s been with that company for 20 years, but still. (But again I’m well aware this is an exception)
